Profound … beautiful … eloquent.
Speaking of the “creed-clad God harnessed to pulpits” (love that expression!) my text next Sunday is John 9 where the disciples wonder about who sinned so that this man was born blind. The intent of Jesus’ response about this being for the glory of God is captured, I think, in your comment: “What we are given in abundance is space to respond with humility, with reverence, with clarity of occasion. And in the shadowy light of our moving toward another, slowly, hope is restored, increasingly, humanity is healed -God among us as mercy.”
Thank you very much Sam. Yes, read through active mercy that passage is hopeful, read from the top as a God desiring and receving glory for curative powers, would be very troubling.
“This is the still small voice God” — wonderful. Thank you for this, Stephen!
Thanks for your comment Kelly.
