Mercy for Pakistan – World Relief

There’s a number that corresponds to how many people the floods in Pakistan have killed, displaced, and left homeless. There is also a number that represents the total count of people sick and dying from contaminated food and water-borne diseases.

And there is a number for the amount of money—for aid workers, for food rations, for rebuilding homes and roads—that represents the meeting and relieving of all these other numbers.

If you want to give, World Relief has their hearts, heads, and hands in the right place. Having personal knowledge of their leadership I can vouch that they have their ducks in a row—that is, what you give gets there.

Here’s what they’re up to now:  (Check their site as well.)

World Relief Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank partners, is distributing 280 metric tonnes of food rations (1,000 food kits) to affected families in Nasirabat, a community in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. The initial goal is to provide one month of rations for 1,000 families consisting of flour, rice, cooking oil, pulses, sugar, salt and tea.

Oh, and when you give, remember this:

The Government of Canada will contribute an equivalent amount to the Pakistan Floods Relief Fund for every eligible donation by individual Canadians to Canadian registered charities between August 2 and September 12," announced International Cooperation Minister Bev Oda. "This fund will provide effective and accountable financial support to experienced Canadian and international humanitarian and development partner organizations working on humanitarian assistance, early recovery, and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.

  1. Hi Stephen,

Thanks for highlighting the plight of people who are genuinely impoverished and suffering in Pakistan.

Just a note. In 1978 I worked with a British medical doctor in the Nong Khai refugee camp in NE Thailand – Dr. Jeoffrey. He was sponsored by World VISION. The title of your post could be misunderstood, naming World Vison and World Relief in the same context. They are not the same. I know that you know this and wanted to just point out the potential confusion between the title and the content of your excellent post. 🙂

    Both need support…

    Peace

    Craig
