Be careful Steve, or at least be ready...traveling life that way, seeing beneath annoying or hurtful or obnoxious surfaces, will cost you…it can become reflexive to understand, to empathize, and others will start telling you to stop making excuses for bad behaviour, and (my favourite) accuse you of not holding people accountable for their actions. It’s true, that’s what happens, because it’s also true that when you see past the surface, you do make allowances, let people off the hook, show mercy (which to observers isn’t usually warranted)…and sometimes show mercy at great expense to yourself (which may or may not be a good thing to do)...you will be forever on the tightrope of “love your neighbour as yourself”, and both can’t always be loved equally well.
Oh don't I sound so wise, just listen to me....this too was just a reflexive response; I know nothing,
